Tip #40 Red Eye Gone Photo   (Photoshop CS2)

By: Donna Chapman

What a cute picture my daughter took of her and her friend, unfortunately my
daughter just happens to look possessed.  This is definitely not the way I see my
little angel. If this has happened to you, you know what a disappointment it is.
Thanks to Photoshop this picture is not sent directly to the trash bin. There are
many ways to get the red out, however, I have found this to be the most natural
looking when finished because of the multitude of mid- ranges of color that remain
in the image.

To begin magnify so that most of what you see is the eye.  Using the Magnetic Lasso
select  the entire colored portion of the eye. At the bottom of the layer pallet is a circle
that is half white and half black, Click on this and choose color balance. Then play
around with the highlights until you get the correct color for the iris.

Next Use your Magnetic Lasso around the red portion of the pupil making certain
to get the entire red, even where it turns darker and starts blending into the iris. Click
on that same black and white circle icon and this time choose hue/saturation. Adjust
this until it looks right for your picture.

Create another color balance layer as before to adjust shadow areas if necessary.

Create a new layer. Choose white with brush opacity of around 70 % and paint
back in a touch of highlight. Fix the other eye if necessary and you are done (Hint:
if you go to fix the other eye and your colors do not match up exactly just double
click on the first color balance layer and check the numbers - do the same with the
first color layer for the second eye and type in the numbers for an exact match)
