Tip #37: A Bubble Mask Photo (Photoshop 7)
By: Tedric GarrisonFirst open the image you want to try this effect on. Duplicate the Background Layer (Arrow "A") by dragging it onto the Create a New Layer Icon (Arrow "B") at the bottom of the Layers Palette. Click on the Background Layer to make sure it is active then push the Ctrl+Backspace keys at the same time, this should fill this entire layer with white. Now, click on the Background Copy Layer to make it the active layer.
Using the Elliptical Marquee Tool (Arrow "A"), make a round selection
over the upper right section you still want to see (Arrow "B").
While holding the Shift Key down on your keyboard, continue to make new selections of different sizes and shapes. Notice that as long as each shape overlaps slightly it becomes part of a new, more interesting shape. See
Arrows "A", "B", and "C". Make sure the central part of your image is
completely covered (no holes in the middle.)
Click on the Add a Layer Mask icon (Arrow "A") at the bottom of the Layers Palette. Now, click on the Add a Layer Style icon (Arrow "B") and choose "Stroke". This will open up yet another dialog box.
Within this newly opened dialog box enter 10 for the pixel size (Arrow "A"), enter
center for the position (Arrow "B"), and Gradient as the Fill Type (Arrow "C"),
but . . . do NOT click on the OK button just yet.
See the Gradient bar that goes from black to white?? (See photo above.)
Click on that Gradient thumbnail to open the Gradient editor. (See photo below.) First click on the color stop on the left hand side (Arrow "A") and your pointer arrow turns into a Color Picker that looks just like your regular Eyedropper tool. Go to your image and select a dominate color (in our case we chose Pink.) Then go to the right hand color stop (Arrow "B") and choose a lesser supportive color (in our case we chose a light blue). After both colors are selected click OK twice to close the Color Picker and Gradient Editor.
At the bottom of your original Layers Palette box click on the Add a Layer
Style icon (the one that looks like a black circle with an F in it) and on the left hand side go over and click on the words "Bevel and Emboss". Add whatever lettering or message you feel appropriate, then go back to the top menu bar, go over to Layer, and down to Flatten Image and left click once. Then Save your new work under a different name so you can play with this effect several times
if you wish.
