Tip #33: Change Photo Background (Photoshop 7)
By: Tedric Garrison
OK, let's say you have a descent photo and you want to place it on the web.
The problem is that you already have too much gray on your site, so what do
you do now? Simple we change the background color of your photo.
First you take your trusty Magic Wand tool (no kidding, that really is what it's
called); found on the right hand side of the tool bar (the second tool down) and
click on the background.
Now go to the menu bar (the one that runs across the top), go to Image (third
item from the left) down to Adjustments, then over and down to Hue/Saturation.
This will bring up the Hue/Saturation dialog box. Make sure you check the small
box on the right side that says: "Colorize". See the red check mark above.
Once that box is checked the Saturation bar will automatically go down to 25 and
the Hue bar will go down to 0. All you have to worry about is the Hue slider bar
which is the one on the top. Just slide the bar from left to right to see the changes.
Go slowly until you find the color you like. You will be able to see the results in
real time so you can judge which setting looks best for your particular photo.
When you found the color you like, deselect the image by going back up to the
menu bar go over to Select (5th over from the left) and go down to deselect.
Don't forget to save your new image under a new name if you want to be able
to use the original in a different project later on.
