Tip #30    From Photo to Sketch         (Photoshop 7)
By: Tedric Garrison

You're looking for something different to put on your wall, and you think to yourself, "Where is a good sketch artist when you need one?"  The answer is quite simple; he or she, is sitting in your computer just waiting for you to give this a try.

Step 1 Open your main image, then go to your Layers Menu bar (4th item
across the top from your far left) and click duplicate layer.  This will create a
layer that says Background Copy.

Step 2 In your Layers Dialog box (the one on the far right that actually shows the duplicate layer), Right click on Background Copy and click "Blending Options" that
will open the "Layer Style Dialog Box" like you see above.  Within that box, open the top drop down menu that says Blend Mode and scroll down and click "Overlay".  Directly below that drop down menu is a slider bar that says opacity, move it until it says 60%.  Click OK and close that box, then go back to the Layers Dialog Box and
right click on background copy again, this time choosing "Layer Properties".  Change the name of this Layer to "Overlay01 ".

Step 3 Make sure you are on Overlay01, then go to Filter on the Menu Bar (sixth item
on the top from the far left), scroll down to Stylize, click and go over to Find Edges and click again.

Step 4 Duplicate the layer called Overlay01 and rename it Overlay02.  Then follow the
same steps as in Step 3 (only applying it to Overlay02.)

Step 5 Duplicate the layer called Overlay02 and rename it Overlay03.  Then follow the same steps as in Step 3 again (only applying it to Overlay03.)

Step 6  Flatten the image by opening the Layer Menu (4th item across the top from your far left), then scroll down to Flatten Image and click.  Save your image under a new name and live happily ever after.
