Tip #17: Photo Studio Backdrop (Photoshop CS2)
By: Donna Chapman
This photo turned out looking as if it could have been a professional shot had it not been for the background. So the first thing we will do is to get rid of the current background. You can see how I did this in Tip # 16. Once that is done we are ready for this tutorial.
1. Create a new layer by typing “Control + J”
2. Change your foreground color to a lighter color and you background color to a darker color as I did with pink and purple.
3. Choose Filter > Render > Clouds
Once you do this you may wish to re-choose your foreground and background colors as I did. When you like the color combination then you will need to click and drag your cloud layer to under your background. You will notice that I did a Gaussian Blur and a Crosshatch as well to make my main part of the background as I envisioned.
However this cutie pie currently seems to be floating in mid air. To take care of this we first create a new layer. Turn off your back layer so that you can see the new layer easily. Using the rectangular marquee select a portion on the lower half of the screen and fill it with your background color.
Turn back on your background layer and then using your move tool on the middle layer position what will be the bottom of your studio background. Do a Gaussian blur on this layer until it looks just right. If you are doing a person then it may look just a bit off, to compensate for the color change do a color balance layer and add in a touch of your coloring from your back ground and it will be just right.
