Coloring Book Photo
By: Donna Chapman
If you have ever thought; wouldn't it be nice if I had a coloring book
of images my child already knows, then I have good news for you.
With the help of photoshop, you can custom make images for a
coloring book specific to your child's interests.
Step 1. Choose a photo you
want to work with, and one
that your child will recognize.
Note: for this project, the
subject must have good
strong lines and no
background. If needed,
extract your main subject
from a different photo
first, and save under a
different name.
Step 2. After you open the
image, you want to create
a duplicate layer. Do this by
going to "Layer" across the
top of the screen, then down
to "Duplicate Layer" in that
drop down menu.
When complete the Layers
Dialog Box will open and
you should see and exact
copy of the original (Arrow
A). Make sure you are on
that layer, not the original
background.
Step 3. Go to the word
"Image" across the top
(Arrow A). Go down to
"Adjustments" (Arrow B),
then go down to the word
"Desaturate" (Arrow C).
Step 4. Once you have
desaturated your image
it will look similar to this.
(Arrow A)
You then need to create
another duplicate layer.
(Arrow B)
Step 5. With the 2nd
copied layer active, hold
down the "Ctrl" Key +
the "I" key at the same
time. This will invert
the colors (Arrow A).
On the Layers Dialog
Box, go up to the drop
down menu that has the
word "Normal" in it,
(Arrow B) and change
it to say "Color Dodge".
Note: If the image goes
almost all white, don't
panic! You have done
nothing wrong.
Step 6: Go to the word
"Filter" across the top
(Arrow A), then down
to the word "Blur"
(Arrow B). Then go
over and down to the
words "Gaussian Blur"
(Arrow C) and click.
Step 7. Once the
"Gaussian Blur" dialog
box opens, slide the
slider bar all the way
to the left to start.
(Arrow A)
Slowly, move the
slider bar to the right
and watch how it
effects the image.
(Arrow B)
Once the coloring
book image looks the
way you want, push
"OK".
Step 8. As always
when it's time to save,
use the "Save As"
function so that you
can give your new
creation a new name.
