Tip #10: Photo Layers 02
By: Tedric Garrison (Photoshop 7)As mentioned before, there is always more than one way to get the
desired effect in photo shop. Tip #9 was how I did things for a long
time until I remembered my trusty friend the magnetic lasso.
Open the two images you want to join. One needs to be larger than the
other. The larger of the two is the background layer. Take the magnetic
lasso tool (2nd tool down on the left) and start going around the smaller
object. (In this case, the balloon.) You may want to enlarge the balloon
to make it easier to catch the fine detail. Remember the magnifying glass
tool? (11th down on the right.)
Once you have completed your loop, make sure the beginning and
ending point touch, when they do you should see a line of dancing ants
similar to the image above. Keeping the left mouse button pushed in,
drag the small image onto the large image. By using this method, only
the balloon itself comes over and saves a lot of time, by not having
to erase.
Of course, you can always combine effects and blow the image up to
say 600% or 800% and eraser the very fine details (possibly even the
sky section above the basket.). When doing that take your time and use
a small brush say size 5 or less. If this is as far as you want to go, don't
forget to flatten the image. Go across to the 4th drop down menu that
says: Layers, scroll down close to the bottom and click on "Flatten
Image." Then go to file and down to "Save As" so you can name your
file.Photoshop Tip #10: Tedric Garrison tedric@betterphototips.com
