Tip #8: Overall Photo Density
By: Tedric Garrison (Photoshop 7)Open the image you want to modify. On the image menu (3rd from the left)
Click on Adjustments, then click on Curves . . . this will bring up a graph similar
to the one below called: "the Curves Dialog Box".
After going through all the steps in Photoshop Tip # 7 you may notice
that there are still one or two individual areas that seem to have a little
bit of unnatural color. In this case, the father's hand still has a bit too
much red. You could get your trusty magnetic lasso and work on that
area some more, or . . . go back to the drop down box in your curves
dialog box and select RGB.
By adjusting all three colors at the same time you effect the overall
density of the photo. At first glance it may look like you are just
lightening or darkening the picture, but look closely at the father's
hand above. The tones are much more natural because the dark
red is gone. As mentioned before there are several ways you could
have gotten the same result, but I promise just making the picture
brighter is NOT one of them.Photoshop Tip #8: Tedric Garrison tedric@betterphototips.com
