  Digital Photography Basics

Digital photography continues to become more and more popular for a variety of reasons. Among the many advantages of digital photography are the ability to see your photos quickly on your LCD screen and then on your computer, the ability to choose which photos to print without having to print or develop all of them, and the ability to easily make improvements with photo editing software. Here are some digital photography basics.

Digital photography is so easy that with minimal practice almost anyone can take great photos. After taking your photos, you simply plug your camera into your computer via a USB cord or a card reader. You see your photos almost instantly and can decide which ones you want to keep on your computer and which ones you want to delete. No waiting for development of film and then having to develop the entire roll to see which photos you like.

You can then save them to your hard drive, burn them to a CD or upload them to photo sharing sites to share with friends and family. Another great advantage of digital photography is that once you have your photos transferred from your card, you can wipe the card clean and use it over and over again without the expense of having to buy more film.

Don’t have a digital camera yet and need to know which one to buy? Begin your search by asking friends and family if they have a digital camera and if so, what features do they like or dislike about it. Make a note of the ones you think you might want. Then get online and look for camera review sites. Search for the cameras that your friends recommended and see what type of reviews that camera has. Look at the other brands that are rated highest also. Decide which camera seems to best meet your needs and is within your budget.

If you can’t afford the retail price, check places like Amazon to see if you can get a good price on a used camera. Also, don’t forget that you may be able to find a good price on eBay. Some eBay stores sell new cameras that will come with a warranty. When buying on eBay be sure to check the seller’s ratings to be sure they are reputable and to ask them any questions that you may have before bidding.

Some accessories that you may want to consider buying if you can afford to do so are a camera bag, an extra memory card, a backup battery and a tripod. However, these items are not required to start out and you can always buy them later as you can afford it.

Photography is a great hobby and you will be rewarded with the joy of capturing moments that you can keep forever. With the ease of use of digital cameras, it is a hobby almost any one can learn and enjoy.
